This thread looks quite different with other beads, blue thread for the chains instead of green and a blue button.

Another, Once Again

Some of AkenAleaDesign's lovely HDT.

Fall Back

Because I must admit I have - for the second time - given up on the Maranta pattern, I shall also admit to a burgeoning addiction to passively enjoying button tatting. I feel as I imagine Diane might, as she tats away at her growing mountain of  Ice Drops.

Here is as far as I got on the pattern; I cut off the last wonky row:

The long chains were once again a complete disaster.

The third pair of socks had been completed and awaits delivery to the young mom and her little one..

Challenge Revisited

Now that another gift is completed, and I am sewing in the border to the second sock, I have decided to have another go at the challenge that I abandoned a few weeks ago.

Have a look HERE at what Umintsuru was able to accomplish:

That woman can really tat! Beautiful precise work.

Fulfilling A Request

Another magic button gift.
She wants blue and green, so...

Also in the works: the last pair in the package of three:

The pattern I employed, as you can see, is one of Frivole's and one
of which I am particularly fond.  In pink, I think it is one of my faves.

Thanks, Joëlle!

Oh! I forgot to post the first pair!!!

Take A Guess

This is going to be very cute... I won't reveal the object till it's done.

I had begun with this pattern, but it is really just too much of a beaded bother, so I discarded the idea.

Sally, of pop-a-bobbin fame made me a handy bobbin-winding tool; I had lost mine. She included a small tatted motif... with a button! Thanks, Sally!

When bored, tat buttons.

No More Mr Nice Guy

No more. Life's too short. I really do not like how this is turning out and now, after three attempts  to fix those long chains, it's not working. This is only the second pattern that I have completely given up on, the first bring Jane's beautiful African design a few years ago.

In this case, I find I cannot control the tension of the chains and they ended up being different lengths; even a mere millimetre made too much of a difference. The sides looked too uneven.

Sorry Umintsuru! This challenge was supposed to be fun -  it definitely is not for me! I am going to cut off the chain rows and see if I can save the centre.

Found: One Fancy Button

... and some new beads - as if I needed more!

I also have some new thread , in preparation for a
new challenge with Umintsuru in September.

Isn't this sweet?

Renulek Uodate

I'm on the penultimate row, which is quick.

The next row will take longer and use a lot of thread.

Not blocked yet.

Love the light silver thread.

Needed this.
It works nicely.

Little Gifts

For some cousins: Magic Buttons.
These things are great for small delights.
Plus, they take very little time to tat.

Edelweiss 2

Actually, I had tatted a quite few repeat elements, but missed a join, so I chose to cut them off. This time I just could not not demonstrate Diane's brand of perseverance!

This is one of Renulek's patterns.
I think it is going to be a beauty.
You can find it on Etsy,

Rebellious Tatting

I had to join in the middle of an element because I was REALLY completely out of thread. Using a wonderful little tool gifted me by Denise I was able to hold the thread at the very tip, utilizing every single millimetre. Judy Banashek would have had a conniption.

Then I used the only green I have - a new ball and a different shade, but there are only two repeats with the alternate colour, so it is not too obvious - maybe.

Here's the renegade join:

The handy little tool:

On to the next project...

This One Is Green

Another button.

I was going to crochet a baby blanket, but, honestly, when I started the thing, I actually immediately became agitated and quite queasy! Crochet is just not in the cards for me anymore! I'm giving the yarn to crafty friends who will do lovely things with it. Whew!

So, back to buttons and I'm looking at a new Jan Stawasz pattern. Frivole is on the final round of that beauty.

... for the next row. Margaret said it was to be the final row. Is that so?

Caught Up

This is a very pretty pattern - and bonus - very easy to follow!
Nearly out if green thread though. We'll see.

Here is the link to Alenaleah's tat-along. Lovely pattern!
Thought I'd join the fun. Thanks, Margaret!

My centre is not part of the pattern as I had begun something else and then decided I wanted to join the tat-along... The centre looked as if it would be fine and indeed it is, so I just kept going. Getting brave in my dotage!

Great pattern, Robin Perfetti!

Following Frivole

Seeing how Frivole enjoyed Robin Perfetti's onion ring square pattern, I had to try it. So far:

I'm tatting this in #40 Lizbeth, so it's a bit small; a bit fidly, but it is a lovely design.

Is It Now A Dead Art?

I am not pleased to have the thought that I am not optimistic about the future of tatting. Today, anyway.

There seems to be fewer blogs and most of the known commodity are familiar to us all, including mine; they display the same things, more or less, over and over again.

Not that they are not displaying beautiful tatting. No. Most of the tatting is truly lovely, but there is nothing new and innovative. Fresh. Dynamic.

I have no answers; I continue to ho-hum tat and tat. But I wish I could see or imagine creative avant-garde designs, patterns and something youthful and creative, instead of the old masters re-created again and again. I want to be wowed and mesmerized by tatting that has never been done before.

Now - some old-hat, kitchen-table tatting by me:

Buttons are keeping me busy and focussed. I really thought I was going to hang up my shuttles this Spring, but the buttons have inspired me and I am even going to order more thread . I am in the process of deciding which colours to purchase...

This pattern is Karey Solomon's and I had to tat it twice because I messed up this first one. I always make mistakes galore with her patterns on initial run:

First one

Second try
I have to add that since I was first inspired by Pamela Queuedo - TotusMel -  nine years ago, I continue to check her blog for new posts. Her work is the closest to being in the vein of what I am addressing - or trying to put into words that have some meaning about the creative process. Thank you, Pamela!

Button Beatitude

I can't seem to move along; buttons are fun!

Thread colour is limited but I have a lot of beads, thanks to Miranda's generosity years ago. (Where IS Miranda??)

Also, a small motif by a Renulek:
